Getting Around
The best way to travel around Mauritania is by air. Most cities are well connected with flights operating from the following cities: Nouadhibou (daily)

Ayunu l-Atrus (weekly)

Atar (3 flights per week)

Kaedi (weekly)

Kiffa (weekly)

Nema (weekly)

Tidjikja (weekly)

Selibaby (weekly)

Zouerate (2 flights per week)

Prices of flight tickets vary from US$45 to US$90 one way.

Getting to the airport can be expensive, and one has to rely on taxis without fixed prices. Overland transport is problematic, packed cars going south, trucks and Land Rovers going north. Getting to Nouadhibou will normally take 30-50 hours. Getting to Rosso, will take 3-5 hours. Getting to Chinguetti will take 12-20 hours. Visitors can rent cars but that is also an expensive option. Gas is difficult to get in the more remote regions, and costs around US$0.80 per litre.

Distances to other cities from Nouakchott are as follows:
250 km to Rosso
250 km to Boutilimit
300 km to Akjoujt
500 km to Atar
500 km to Nouadhibou
5 km to Plage de Pêcheurs
